I’m always looking for a way to get my charcoal ready fast… but without having to use lighter fluid or anything else that might give my meat a bad flavor.
So I was pretty excited to try-out a new fire-starter product… It’s Green Grill Fire Starters. And I have to say, I was pretty impressed.
Fire Starters are super easy to use. You simply place whatever brand charcoal you are using in a pyramid shaped pile (I used Kingsford for this review because it’s available to just about everyone), leave a couple of air chambers between the coals towards the bottom.
I left two cavities the first time but probably could have gotten away with just one.
Next I placed the Fire Starter strips into the holes and lit them with a lighter. The Fire Starters immediately started to burn, and I could see the coals around them getting hot. Fire Starters claim to be an odorless product. I truly didn’t notice any noxious or foul smelling fumes coming from the grill. The smoke produced was from the burning coals only, and this is what you want when grilling.
As far as time goes, in 8 minutes flat there was no trace of the Fire Starters. They completely burned away leaving no ash or residue. In 12 minutes total time the charcoal was ready for grilling. All that was left to do was throw some meat on the grill and get ready to eat.
I was impressed with the ease of use and how quickly the Fire Starters worked. They’re definitely a great replacement for lighter fluid or other products that add chemicals to your bbq. I would much rather use an all natural product any day.
Fire Starters get my approval; I’m going to try them out using my charcoal chimney next!
