KCBS Contest Last Weekend: Stand By Your Grill in Fulton, MS

Last week we took the Killer Hogs caravan to Fulton, MS to compete in the “Stand By Your Grill” KCBS BBQ event. This was the second year for this contest and it drew 50 teams from over 8 different states. The contest was held at the Jamie Whitten Historical Center & Park right on the banks of the Tennessee Tombigbee Waterway. This is one contest where you have plenty of room to cook. Every contestant gets an entire RV spot with full hookups. On Friday night the contest provides dinner and live entertainment for bbq teams and judges. This year it was a shrimp boil, and whoever was responsible for cooking the shrimp, corn on the cob, and new potatoes, knew exactly what he or she was doing. It really hit the spot just before firing up the smokers. Everything went pretty smooth on our end as far as the cooking was concerned. It rained for most of the evening, but with our new bbq trailer it didn’t hinder our efforts. The weather the next day couldn’t have been more perfect. It was sunny but without the August heat that we’ve become accustom to in MS. Our entries were up to our standards that day and the results showed it. We were fortunate enough to hear our name called 3 times at the awards that afternoon. The Killer Hogs brought home checks in pork and brisket 4th and 6th places. We also finished 9th overall which continues our consistent run this year. Overall the Fulton Contest was great and we had minimal complaints. I’m certain you’ll find us there next year.
