Roast N’ Boast BBQ Contest in Columbus, MS

Booth at Columbus, MS contest Whew! We’ve had a busy couple of weeks. We cooked Fulton, Columbus and just wrapped up the Millington contest. But the Roast N’ Boast contest in Columbus, MS was unlike any other KCBS contest I’ve ever cooked in. These people know how to throw a BBQ!  They’ve been having this contest for years. I heard it was one of the oldest bbq competitions in the country. They’ve switched sanctioning bodies a few times, but the contest always went on. And it’s something to see! BBQ Teams and businesses in the town have permanent structures that they use almost exclusively for this one BBQ contest each year… and they make the most of their one weekend. Columbus Roast N’ Boast is like a mini Memphis In May. The booths can be just as elaborate and there is a great party and good food to go with it. I love local contests that are unique, do something different or have a little history behind them – and this one hits on all those fronts.

Plus, the staff and everyone there was nice and very accommodating. I think everyone invloved with this contest was having a great time (including me). And our product was pretty good that day too. Our ribs locked up on us, but we had a great day for Brisket and took 1st place in that category. We ended up with 9th place chicken, 6th place pork, 1st place Brisket and 3rd overall. Not a bad day… And I’ve gotta give a big congratulations to Bayou Boogie BBQ for his GC. So if you are looking for a KCBS contest that is a lot of fun – Roast N’ Boast is it!
