Apple Cobbler Recipe

When you’re firing up your smoker this summer, don’t forget the desserts. Here’s my go-to recipe for a quick and tasty Apple Cobbler made right on the pit. All you need are fresh apples and a few basic ingredients you probably have in the kitchen, and you’ll have a dessert ready for any Backyard BBQ. Start by peeling and coring 7-8 medium size Granny Smith Apples. Quarter the apples and place them in a large bowl. Coat the apples with 1 cup of sugar and 1 teaspoon of Cinnamon and let them hang out for about an hour. Apple Cobbler In a mixing bowl combine 2 cups of All Purpose Flour, 1 ½ cups of table sugar, ½ cup brown sugar, 2 eggs (beaten), 2 teaspoons of baking powder, and a pinch of salt. Stir the mixture until it forms small crumbles. Place the apples in a cast iron dutch oven (or iron skillet) and sprinkle the crumble mixture on top. Drizzle the whole thing with 1 stick of melted butter. Apple Cobbler Fire up your smoker or bbq grill set up for indirect cooking and bring the temperature to 350⁰. Place the dutch oven in the pit and cook for about 1 hour. Apple Cobbler The cobbler is done once the topping browns. At this point it’s ready to serve; just plate it up with a big scoop of vanilla ice cream, and you’ll have one great BBQ dessert! Print

Hi Malcom. New to the site but I like videos very much. I was wondering if you had tried smoking one of my favorite; turkey tenders. This is the same as a chicken tender (finger) but three times larger and taste like turkey breast. Get them at the grocery store. And season like chicken breast. Also. Ask your butcher about Turkey ribs. They come off the back of the bird tow each (they are lnit really ribs).

Hi Malcolm, I just found you site today and write to ask if you have tried your Parmesan and Garlic Potato recipe in a electric smoker? I have been using a Masterbuilt 40 for a couple of months and wonder how they came out, if you’ve done it.

    • Malcom Reed says:

No, not a big fan of electric smokers – But you can cook the parmesan and garlic potato on any smoker – it’s just about holding those temps steady.

Hi Malcom I’ve tried many of your recipes and love them. I’ve also purchased your gloves and knives which make things much easier. I’ve taken your parm and garlic to several parties as sides and man what a hit. Thank you for all your work maintaining this site.

    Hi Malcom,

Regarding the Apple Cobbler recipe – do you place a lid on the dutch oven or leave uncovered??
    LOVE THE PICKLES!!!!

Hey, Malcom. First of all, I wanted to let you know that I really enjoy your videos. You obviously enjoy sharing your experience and love of bbq with others – and it comes across in your videos. You do a great job, and your enthusiasm is such a joy to watch. Anyway, I just wanted to let you know that I just tried your smoked apple crumble recipe this past weekend. The only change we made was we used peaches instead of apples. Dude, it was fan-freaking-tastic!!! And very easy. Had some guests over Saturday night for dinner, and this was definitely one of the highlights of the evening. Had a couple of people call me later and tell me how much they enjoyed it, and asked for the recipe. I just pointed them towards your site. 🙂 But I just wanted to take a second to let you know that I really appreciate what you do. God bless you, brother. – Brad M.

Hey, Malcom. Thanks for putting up such a great website. I’m on here at least once a week looking something new to put on my smoker. I recently tried your bread pudding. Your videos are real easy to follow. It came out great on the first try. Keep up the good work and keep posting these recipes.

Malcolm, I love the videos and the recipes I have tried. I have a question about the Apple cobbler. After you peel and core the apples do you slice the cored apple pieces again or do you leave then that thickness? Thanks in advance.

  10. Cody Burkhart says:

Im a huge fan i watch every video u post every week ur the friendliest person iv ever seen on videos but i bought a few of you seasonings But i cook on a webber kettle but i was thinking about getting a traeger pellet grill cus im not verry good at controlling low temps for a long time but the pellet grills are pricey do you feel like there quality is worth the price thanks

    • Malcom Reed says:

Quality is about the same in the entry level models; all of them cook pretty well but they’re made out of cheaper materials, so they won’t last as long. When you get to the higher price models ($1k & more) you start getting into the really well built pellet grills. Brands like Yoder and Memphis Wood Fire grills stand out above the crowd.

  11. Jason says:

We’ve made this multiple times and it’s a huge hit every time. Plus, it’s so easy to do when you’re cooking for a crowd. So, would peaches work just as well?

  12. Gabino Salgado says:

    Would this work with peaches??

I poured in a small basket of blueberries over the apples before adding the crumble batter, and I threw a few applewood chips on the coals for a little bit of smoke. It was fantastic, and my whole backyard smelled like apple pie during the cook. Thanks Mr. Reed, this is a great recipe, just what we were hoping for, absolutely perfect!
