With the MBN competition BBQ circuit, you have to actually present your BBQ to the judges along with turning in a blind box.
In the preliminary round, every team is visited by 3 separate judges – which visit your tent one at a time. You need to explain your cooking process to the judges and let them sample your BBQ. Your presentation should last between 12 – 15 minutes.
The scores from all three judges are combined with your blind box score, and the top 3 teams in each category move-on to the finals round. (the categories in MBN are ribs, pork shoulder and whole hog).
For finals judging you have 1 round of four judges. These same four judges visit every finals team – in every category.
This is a sample of the finals judging from our last contest. The judges were judging our pork shoulder in this video.
This video just gives you an idea of what on-site presentation in MBN is all about.
