GrillEye Review

The folks at GrillEye wanted me to test out a “new to the U.S. market” probe thermometer recently, and I wanted to share my findings with you. I shot a quick video review… If you keep up with my videos/recipes, you know that I’m a big proponent for cooking to internal temperature vs. straight time. This is crucial when you want your BBQ to be the best, so of course I was interested in testing out this product. The main thing I was curious about was the device’s ability to monitor 6 different probes all in one control unit plus the capability to do all of this away from the pit thanks to an app on my phone. I knew that if this thing worked as advertised that it would be a huge help in bbq competitions. Right now Waylon and I use 6 different devices while we’re cooking and we have probes and controllers running all over the place. They work flawlessly but more often than not we end up with a tangled mess. The GrillEye is shipped in straight forward packaging. It comes with 2 probes which can be used for meat or grate temps, and you can add up to 4 more probes. The directions are cut and dry: First download the app then power up the control unit. Turn on the Bluetooth feature on your phone then find the device. It paired on the first attempt no trouble at all. From here you’re ready to go to work just insert the probes into the unit and it’s ready. One thing I did notice is the probe size is a little large. I wish thermometer companies would make smaller (diameter and length) probes. I’m not sure what they think we’re cooking but it must be Flintstone size meat! When using the GrillEye the current temp and target temp is displayed on the control unit. It cycles through each probe fairly quick so there are no buttons to push or alarms to silence. Temperature ranges and target final temps are all completely adjustable via the app. There are numerous preset values for different types of meat plus all of them are completely editable. grilleye review I’ve tested the GrillEye on several different cooks here at the house and currently Waylon and I are using it during comps. I set up probes for monitoring multiple money muscles, brisket flat & point, and chicken. I only received two probes with my test unit, but I found that probes from other thermometers also work with the GrillEye. This lets us use all 6 inputs with ease which is the absolute best feature of the GrillEye. The next best thing is the app. It works up to 100m away from the control unit. I didn’t test to see where it loses signal, but I can say that it stayed connected all over my house and in our bbq trailer which is about as far as I plan to go anyway. grilleye review If you’re looking for a new device to monitor up to 6 probes at once and you want to walk away from your pit, keep an Eye out for the GrillEye. They’re planning on rolling it out in the U.S. very soon so check out their website for updates. https://grilleye.com Malcom Reed Connect on Facebook Follow me on Twitter Subscribe to my YouTube Channel Find me on Google+ Follow me on Instagram Buy Killer Hogs Products Here

Was just curious how accurate temps were to other devices. Thanks for the review!

Curious how the sender holds up in rain? Smoking in Seattle’s hard on the electronics!

  3. Hey Malcom do the thermoworks smoke probes work on the grilleye? I just had one of the grilleye probes fail after a couple of uses and they do not make it an easy or cheap process sending out a new one
